There’s a place in your kitchen that escapes cleaning often because you just don’t see it. What is this elusive kitchen surface? What is so mysterious as to elude cleaning on a regular basis? It’s the top of your refrigerator.
I have to admit, this is one of my least favorite places to clean. It’s just taking everything off the top of the refrigerator (for me, it’s a basket of hot pads and oven mittens, some adult beverage, and a decanter of olive oil) and then getting my step stool out since I’m not tall enough to reach all the way back.
I do recommend safely using a step stool or ladder to reach the whole top of your fridge. I was cleaning at a house last week and found that I even needed to pull the fridge out and angle it to get every corner of the top.
For your cleaning product, you can use a degreaser cleaning spray or get a small bowl of hot, soapy water. If you haven’t cleaned this surface in a while, you will find that there is a slightly greasy layer of dust. Cleaning this on a regular basis, like once a month, will only be wiping down dust without the grease. Once the top is clean, take everything off the front of your fridge and give the front of the fridge a wipedown. This is a great time to reevaluate that needs to be on the front of your fridge.
This is a job that deserves a GIANT gold star as a reward! You are doing a great job and I am so proud of you! I hope that you find that the feeling of knowing that things are clean is a good and empowering feeling.
Our next blitz is another seldom cleaned but rewarding surface. Check out Day 14 for the details!
